Density versus firmness
Density measures mass per volume. Firmness measures resistance to compression. A dense foam can still be formulated to feel soft.
Why density matters
Within comparable foam types, density can be one useful signal when considering durability and material use.
Do not compare unlike materials blindly
Memory foam, conventional polyfoam and latex use different structures, so density numbers are most useful in context.
